Placements dip as IT firms shrink offers

When Etihad Airways picked up five students from TA Pai Institute of Management for Rs 49.05 lakh salary per annum, it was just a flash in the pan. The campus placement trend for 2014 is a different story altogether.

Two years ago, Infosys had recruited 306 students from Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering but this year, the number dropped to 166. HCL, which recruited over 300 students last year, might skip its campus visit this time. There was one mass recruiter, though: iGate picked up 61 students.

This slowdown sentiment is reflected in other city colleges too. "The number of tier-I and tier-II companies which offer the highest packages are the same. But the breadand-butter companies -- mass recruiters important to a campus recruitment drive — have started reducing their intake. This time last year, around 80% placements were complete but it's still around 75%," said K Shreedhar, placement officer at PESIT. For original  post see here
