India inc wants you!

Campus hiring upbeat says a report
Hiring trends in 2013 indicated that despite the slowdown, India Inc was strong on campus placements. As per a campus study conducted by Aon Hewitt, the global human resource consulting and outsourcing firm, the economic slowdown did not deter employers from actively pursuing candidates through on-campus recruiting programmes. Mainstay sectors such as consumer durables, engineering/manufacturing, and automobiles reported a stable outlook with a majority reporting no change in hiring plans.

The study findings revealed a steady flow of pre-placement offers and interviews (PPIs and PPOs). In a year where concern about final placements was high, the PPOs and PPIs offered at campuses gave some respite with many organisations using it as a strategy to spot and retain talent ahead of the placement season. Besides compensation, more and more organisations were looking at providing accelerated development, roles that offered varied experience and flexible work arrangements to campus hires. For complete post see here

Alumni Mushaid Khan Shares Interview Tips

Mushaid Khan, who works for Oracle shares Interview tips

Tips which may help you in the interview rounds :

1. Be polite and confident while answering the questions.

2. Dont give fake or false answers, it will give a wrong impression, in case you dont know an answer , just reply politely that your dont have knowledge about the same, this will be very helpful in creating a professional image of yourself in front of interviewer . ( i wish you wont say the same for all questions that they gonna ask :D )

3. keep a pleasant smile on your face, whatever may come, ans very politely , with a smile and in a confident tone.

4. "Judge yourself before they judge you". see to your interest in the field they are hiring you for. Be clear about the type of job you gonna do in the company. Ask specific Qs to HR about it and decide if you will be loving your job or not ?

5. Server Technologies IO will focus on Qs relates to CO, CA ,ACA along with other subjects according to my knowledge . please go through them once/ have revision of the same.
6. Be very clear about your merit/ strong points in academics and subjects, if you are confident enough that you can answer well for Qs related to DBMS , ans in language to DBMS, likewise if you are confident about your knowledge in Front end part, while answering include that part. please understand this part .. the summary is "Its on you , where you wanna focus interviewer's mind"

For e.g if IO asked me , "tell me about your project ? " and my answer related to DMBS like, "sir, i had done project on XYZ , in which we had created Relational schema , with so many tables and so many attributes .... " , definitely the next Q IO gonna ask you will be on DBMS part of your project . If you answers in terms of front end like " sir , i had done project on XYZ, in which we had designed the front end using RAD tool, in which we used ajax and css technologies for drop down menu ....so on" , the next Q IO gonna ask you will be on the front end part only..

so basically its on you, what part of your knowledge, you wanna show to the IO. Be clear about that and be confident.

In HR round, be humble enough, ask politely about the job you gonna do? what will be growth level ? and any Qs you wanna clear out before joining that particular company.

I wish this would help you. My wishes and prayers with you all.
let me know if i can be of any help.

Accenture HSFP Training: (Day 1)

Accenture HSFP Training: (Day 1)
 by Nivedita Kolkar

The Accenture HSFP training started off with a brief introduction of the 3 weeks plan they tend to follow for the Campus to Corporate transition. The course consists of 3 modules.

The day 1, of the 1st module was very helpful. They focus not only on the teaching aspects but also helping students understand and develop leadership skills, communication and teamwork. It began with an activity to introduce each student to the class and to the group he/she was placed in. Later, the morning session was followed by a brief review of the basic concepts of Computer Architecture.

The next topic introduced to us was based on the basics of Computer Networking where in the trainer taught a few new points to keep in mind. Later on the afternoon session was energized with a game, to teach the importance of working as a team, being a leader and even working under pressure when several distractions occur around. This game ended with a lot of spirit and it brought into account the scenario faced and ways to handle real stress and pressure when in a Corporate Environment. Finally the last technical session was a brief overview of Algorithms.
Altogether day 1, was a very interesting start for this training, and we really hope to learn a lot the following few weeks.

We will be publishing student reports on HSFP training  progress every day. Interested student may send daily summaries to sdmcet.taps@gmail.com

I recommend juniors to start preparing for campus drive during vacations. It would be helpful if they concentrate on basic subjects of their respective departments to get hired in core companies. Also practicing aptitude questions will help them to clear their first round. During interview one should face with full confidence. As knowledge mirrors confidence....
This is my simple advice to my juniors.
Hoping this will help...
Thank you sir.

Campus Placement: Good CGPA is Necessary, but not Sufficient says a Senior

“after attending 15 interviews finally im in2 my dream company oracle” - Supriya Shetty

This is your senior SUPRIYA.A.SHETTY, from CSE 09-13 batch . I want to just bring it into your notice about how difficult it was for me to get placed and the reason behind it.

To begin with, even though I was a 9 pointer getting placed was not a cake walk for me. What we learn here is just theory oriented and industry people expect us to be practically strong. My first interview began with BOSCH. I was not at all prepared. I had not even opened aptitude book for it. I always had over confident that I will be placed in Accenture for sure because Accenture people had promised to hire 400+ students and also 9 pointers usually used to have direct HR round. So didn’t even feel bad when I didn’t clear the first round in BOSCH. Then came the training period. Had joined ETHNUS coaching for aptitude. We all friends never took it seriously. Used to go to fun there and enjoy because we all were 9 pointers and had hope that Accenture will have direct HR round and we will be into it. Before Accenture came I had attended many interview like Tally, and I don’t remember the names. Atleast four companies I have attended before I attended Accenture. If I had seriously prepared for any of these companies I would have easily cracked it. At the end when I realized that it was too late.
Finally we got a news telling that,”no direct HR in Accenture this time “, when there was just 15 days left for the interview. Felt very depressed and sad. I still had hope that ill be placed in Accenture. I didn’t prepare well since was over confident. When the results came I was so depressed because I couldn’t clear it. It was due to my fault. I was very over confident and didn’t prepare well. Then in that depression mood, I couldn’t clear mindtree too. Had lost all the hopes. Read complete experience here

Inviting more 'core' Companies for 2013-14 Campus placement

Hello ALL

This year we are decided to invite more " core" companies for campus hiring. Kindly suggest "core" companies belonging to your department and any contact details that will help us reach them. Below is the form

Your contribution will be appreciated.

Indian IT: 3 things that may hit hiring

In under two years, 23-year-old Laveen Bakshi has experienced a wide range of emotions in his stillborn career in information technology. For the electronics and communications engineer from The Maharaja Suratmal Institute of Technology, Delhi, the initial thrill of getting an offer letter from HCL Technologies, India's number four software exporter, has now given way to dejection, desperation and anger after a near two-year wait for a joining date.

At least 6,000 others are in the middle of such frustrating waits to join HCL and other IT companies. Once a magnet for skilled manpower, especially engineers, IT companiesare now hiring less -- the sector hired 200,000 people last year, 50,000 less than the previous 12 months, according to industry body Nasscom.

A global slowdown and a slow-to-change local industry have crimped hiring, and with it, the aspirational tag long enjoyed by this sector. "A feeling of disgust has replaced our previous feeling of pride," says Bakshi. Having waited for months for a joining date, he has also discovered that hiring plans for the 2013 batch are afoot; and as a graduate from the previous year, he's out in the cold. HCL TechnologiesBSE -0.25 % didn't make its executives available for an interview, despite repeated requests.  For complete story see here

Accenture Invests To Enhance Cloud Platform Services

Cloud computing is no longer an emerging trend. For instance, salesforce.com has seen 14 years of operation and it has been more than 5 years since it topped 1 million subscribers. Similarly, other organizations operating in cloud computing have made significant progress in cloud-enabling their applications. However, recent innovations in this sector, such as everything-as-a-service (XaaS), are signs that there are still opportunities yet to be tapped into.

Realizing these trends and helping its clients to get the most business value from cloud computing along with an anticipation of a greater demand for public cloud, Accenture PLC (ACN) has launched the Accenture Cloud Platform. Also, Accenture will invest more than $400 million in cloud technologies, capabilities and training by 2015 in an attempt to deliver the right cloud services from its network of providers, as well as blending its own industry solutions and innovations with third party offerings.
